Our Background
Rebecca Deer - Founder & Therapist
Rebecca Deer is the founder of Abrundah Therapeutic Service, a name inspired by her father’s farm in the Manning Valley. "Abrundah," meaning "coming home," reflects Rebecca’s commitment to providing a safe and welcoming space for individuals seeking healing and support. With a wealth of experience in mental health,
Rebecca works with children, adults, and families, as well as victims of crime through her involvement with Victims Service. Her approach is rooted in a trauma-informed, culturally responsive, and empowerment-based framework, helping clients navigate a variety of challenges, including mental health issues and the effects of trauma. With over 8 years of experience, I have worked extensively with victims of violence, abuse, and neglect across the lifespan, alongside providing comprehensive mental health support. This has equipped me with deep insights into trauma recovery and resilience building
Rebecca’s therapeutic toolkit includes Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (TF-CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Schema Therapy, Family Systems Therapy (FST), Narrative Therapy, Life Story Work, and Therapeutic Doll Work. Additionally, she is trained in the Circle of Security Parenting (COSP) program, allowing her to incorporate attachment theory into her work with children and families.
Her values are grounded in the AASW Code of Ethics, and she takes a holistic, anti-oppressive, and feminist approach in her practice. With over five years of experience, Rebecca also offers professional supervision to social work students and practitioners, supporting their growth and development in the field.
When she’s not at work, Rebecca enjoys spending time with friends over coffee, playing sports, and staying active. This balance of personal vitality and professional dedication ensures her clients receive compassionate, focused care every step of the way.
